Samantha Billingham

About me

I am Samantha Billingham and my priority lies in continuously raising awareness of the abhorrent crime domestic abuse. After experiencing a relationship with various forms of abuse, including coercive control, I now tirelessly use my story and voice to empower societies understanding and knowledge of domestic abuse. My aim is to also encourage businesses to provide a domestic abuse workplace for their employees.

I have shared my experience and knowledge with many different organisations including Greenwich University, Midlands Air Ambulance, Department for Work and Pensions, NHS and Staff Advice and Liaison Service.

“Time and time again I hear people say “Oh I’m not a victim of domestic abuse because I’m never hit” but they fail to see the signs of coercive control” – Samantha Billingham

As a survivor of domestic abuse, I know Christmas can be the most feared time of the year, Here, I share my lived experience with Metro readers.

Second Chance Podcast

Award winning Second Chance is a podcast series that explores the theme of second chances. Here, I talk to British broadcast and journalist, Raphael Rowe, and what second chance means to me.

I use my lived experience to be a vocal advocate and ambassador for Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse, raising awareness on how the role of employers can play in tackling domestic abuse.
